12 Issues Down, A Few Lessons & Avoiding the Scatterboom!

Twelve newsletters. Twelve consecutive issues.

I’m pretty proud of that!

When I started writing these newsletters, I wanted to share ideas, experiences, and little reminders that could make running a business a bit easier. Twelve issues later, I’m realizing that I’m learning just as much as I’m sharing.

And starting my travel agency business has reinforced something important: while industries may change, the fundamentals of running a business don’t.
What I’m Learning Along the Way

Whether you’re running a creative business, managing clients, or building something entirely new, some things never change.

  • Systems matter. Having a process to follow keeps you moving when things get busy.
  • Daily actions add up. Success isn’t usually one big moment. It’s the small, consistent things we do every day.
  • End-of-day closure counts. Taking a few minutes to wrap up, review what’s unfinished, and prepare for tomorrow helps you start the next day with more clarity.
  • Management skills grow with you. Learning to prioritize, make decisions, manage interruptions, and lead yourself takes practice.
  • Confidence comes from doing. You don’t have to know everything before you begin. Sometimes confidence comes from showing up, learning, and doing it again.

But there’s one thing that can derail all of this.

I call it the Scatterboom!

You start with a plan. Then an interruption happens. One thing leads to another, you abandon your process, and suddenly you’re juggling 19 things and wondering what you were doing in the first place.

Sound familiar?

The biggest challenge isn’t always creating a good system. It’s protecting your process when distractions, unexpected situations, and our own mindsets try to pull us in every direction.

My reminder to myself this month? Stay consistent, finish the day intentionally, and don’t let the Scatterboom run the show.

What’s one daily habit that helps you stay on track?
